Music by Kay Swift
Words by Paul James

Key: Ab
Time: 4/4 Andantino

Fm                    Fm/Ab        G7 G7-5  G7
I took each word he said as gospel truth,
C7                             Db/F  C7
The way a silly little child would.
Fm           Fm/Ab            G7       G7-5  G7
I can't excuse it on the grounds of youth,
C7                             Fm Bb Fm
I was no babe in the wild wood.
Bbm         Fm/Ab
He didn't mean it,
G7-5              Fm
I should have seen it,

Now it's too late!

Key of F (modulation)

I thought for once it couldn't go wrong.

Not for long! I can see the way this ends:

He's goin' to turn me down and say,
F           Bb7   F      Dm  F7
Can't we be friends?

Can't we be friends?

Rainy Night In Georgia is a popular song from the 60s. I have posted the chord progressions to Tony Joe White's piece. Also, Billy Vera's At This Moment is from the best of the 80s music!

Young At Heart: Chords and Lyrics

Frank Sinatra: Young At Heart l LadyDpiano

Johnny Richards was a jazz arranger and composer in the mid-20th century of United States. He wrote the music to Young At Heart in ©1954. Carolyn Leigh was an American lyricist and wrote the words to this beautiful song. My mother loved the famous crooner voice of Frank Sinatra and I especially like this song. I've heard it sung by other pop artists and it sounds wonderful.

Chords and Lyrics ( Young At Heart)

Key: Bb
Time: 4/4 Slowly

           Bb
Fairy tales can come true
                                 E dim      Cm7
It can happen to you if you're young at heart
             F7                 Cm7
For it's hard, you will find
           F7            F9                    Bb
To be narrow of mind if you're young at heart
               Fsus            G7           Fm6        G7
You can go to extremes with impossible schemes
    G+7    C9                        C7               C9              C7
You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams
        F7         Bdim      F7    Bdim         F7        Cm7
And life gets more exciting with each passing day
F9    Bb6    F#dim  Bb6     F37      Cm7   F7
And love is either in your heart or on the way
                 Bb
Don't you know that it's worth
                                  Edim     Cm7
Every treasure on earth to be young at heart
            F7             Cm7
For as rich as you are
                F7          F9  F+9   Bb
It's much better by far to be young at heart

           Fm6                 G7         Fm6             G7 G+7
And if you should survive to a hundred and five
              C9             C7            Eb         Ebm
Look at all you'll derive out of being alive
        Bb                              F7              Cm7   F7
And here is the best part, you have a head start
Bb      Bb6       Eb6     Edim   Cm7 F9  Bb
If you are among the very young at heart

I guess if I am working my way around the chord progression to the song, I would play a few chords like this:

L.H. / R.H.

Bb = BbF/EBbD and Bb/DFA and BbBb/DFGBb
E dim = Db/BbEA
Cm7 = C/BbEbG and CF/GBb
F7 = FF/AC and F/EbFA
F9 = FEb/ACG and F/ACEbG
F+9 = FEb/AC#G

C9 = CBb/EBbD
C7 = CBb/EbAC and CBb/EAbC
Bdim = B/DFG#
Bb6 = Bb/BbDG
F#dim = C/AEbF#
Bb6 = D/BbFG

F#7 = DbBbEbF#
Fm6 = DF/CAb
G7 = GF/BC#G
G+7 = G/EbG
Eb = Eb/EbGD
Ebm = BbD/EbGbEb
Eb6 = Eb/CGBb

Hi there! I'm back from Spring Break and I hope you had a wonderful, special Easter! Well, I'm a huge fan of Diana Krall and wanted to share this popular song with you. Do you have a favorite of hers?

Saying goodbye to September!

Here is a timeless song with a daunting melody. Great song by many different artists. An American treasure, for sure. If you have the time, here are a few videos to see and hear. I have the song on vinyl. It's a timeless song and a bit sad, yet life is eternal.

 There are not enough superlatives to describe this evergreen. Introduced in 1932 by Aida Ward at Harlem's Cotton Club, this song has been recorded by such greats as Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Cab Calloway. It was also featured in the 1950 film I'll Get By, starring June Haver, Glorai DeHaven, Harry James and Dennis Day. Lyrics by Ted Koehler and music by Harold Arlen.

 I found these piano chords online by Frank Sinatra and wanted to share them with you.

For the ending, you'll want to play:

FCA/F

DbF/CbAb

CF/CEA

It's such a cool song to play with all the dotted quarter notes followed by
the quick eighth notes. Oh, and you'll want to play this chord as,

G7+5 = FB/AbEb

Just in case you're not familiar with this all-time standard, have a look.

Happy Halloween, have a safe one!

In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning

Frank Sinatra
Cover of Frank Sinatra

 "I would like to be remembered as a man who had a wonderful time living life, a man who had good friends, fine family - and I don't think I could ask for anything more than that, actually."
– Frank Sinatra

Are you familiar with the song, In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning? It was written in 1955. It's played in the Key of C and sounds so dreamy with these rich chords. The first few chord charts are pretty easy and the last one is from one of my music books.

Fly Me To The Moon

 Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words) is one of my favorite songs I listened to in the 50s. My mom and dad listened to it a lot when it first hit the charts in 1954. The words and music are by Bart Howard. The key is Eb and played with a Bossa Nova beat. I can still hear Frank Sinatra sing it!

Am7             Dm7        G7                  Cmaj7
Fly me to the moon, let me play amounst the stars,

F7             Bm7/B5            E7/B9         Am7
Let me see what spring is like on jupiter and mars,

A7/B9 Dm7          G9       G7/B9   Cm9    Am7
In other words, hold my hand!

Am9  Dm7          G7         Fdim7  Cmaj7   Bm7  E7
In other words, darling kiss me!

Am7                Dm7              G7           Cmaj7
Fill my heart with song, and let me sing forever more

F7           Bm7/B5         E7/B9      Am7
you are all I long for all I worship & adore

A7/B9       Dm7          G9        G7  Em7/B5
     In other words, please be true!

A7/B9       Dm7         Dm7/C  G7/B9   C6     Bm7  E7
     In other words I love you

A7/B9    Dm7         G7    G7/B9   C6      Bb6  B6  C6/9

Monday Music Quote: Diana Krall

"That's why these songs have lasted as long as they
have because they're just about feelings that don't change. They are
love songs, they are not specific, those kinds of feelings don't change."

Sarah Vaughn also recorded this song, along with many others.

Enjoy,
